How to install Firefox 13 on Ubuntu 12.04 / 11.10

Mozilla has now launched the latest version of their browser, the Mozilla Firefox 13.

The new Mozilla Firefox offers new features like ‘Tabs on demand’ and search auto-text completion. The Tabs on demand feature changed the Firefox restarts when there the used had a couple of tabs open on his last session. This new feature will make the start-up of the browser much easier and if you want to open a specific tab, you just have to click and proceed. Hence, it saves a lot of time and effort.

The new version of the browser also shows the user the links to the previously and most frequently visited sites, akin to what Google Chrome and Opera now do.

This howto explains how to install Firefox 13 on Ubuntu 12.04, with or without replacing an existing Firefox installation.

Open Terminal and paste the follolwing commands to add the PPA

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-next

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install firefox

Another new feature of the new Mozilla Firefox is that unlike the last version of the browser where the SPDY functionality was an option, the new version of the browser has included the new ultra-rapid SPDY web protocol by default.

With the SPDY, users can load pages much faster and encrypt all traffic that provide a bit of security.
